Social Studies Test!

We have a social studies test over the Economy of Michigan on Friday, March 3rd. A study guide will be coming home on Monday. Please be sure your child is reviewing the information each night this week. Thank you!

Math Update

We are moving onto a new unit in math. In this unit, Relating Multiplication to Division, students will learn about and use the relationship between multiplication and division, place value understanding, and the properties of operations to multiply and divide whole numbers within 100. They will also represent and solve two-step word problems using the four operations. Watch this short video to learn more about how the concepts in this unit will be taught and to learn some tips to help support your child.

March is Reading Month

In addition to the dress up days and an author visit, third grade is sharing in the love of books by participating in a March Reading Madness Tournament of Books. Fiction and Nonfiction will face off in this tournament as we read a variety of both throughout the month and vote on our favorites. Here are the books that we'll be sharing throughout the month.

Report Cards/IXL Diagnostic/Lexia End of Trimester Progress

Report cards will be sent home the week of March 6th.  If you have any questions regarding your child’s report card please feel free to email me. Current IXL diagnostic reports as well as Lexia reports will be included with the report cards.

    • IXL Diagnostic levels should start in the 300s (see below). If the scores are lower, extra time is needed to fill the gaps in math before 4th grade. One good way to practice on IXL is to go to the personal learning plan. This plan is geared for your student based upon NWEA scores. A Smartscore of 80 is acceptable in IXL. Of course, students are free to move onto a score of 100, but 80 is considered proficient.

Here is an example of what you need to look at:

    • Lexia levels for 3rd grade are 13-15. At this point, they should be getting close to or on level 14. If your child is below, extra time would be so helpful.

Thank you for all you do to support your child’s learning at home!
